Easel Projects III

Scared Places was inspired from my time spent in the Yellowstone Regions of NW Wyoming. Surrounded by the most magnificance mountain vista in the contentinal US for nearly six years, the experience was monumental to my well being as an artist.

I once saw an interview asking Why monks select such remote locations for their monistries. The reply was that monks will take a vow of silence for long periods of time, so that things within them rise to the surface to be looked at and, that need to be dealt with on an individual level. For the same reason monistries are build in remote location as to facilitate such spiritual development.

I have driven, hiked and rode on horse back many miles in the backcountry of Cody Wyoming and surrounding areas. My time there was monumental and life changing on a very deep seeded level. The clearity of vision, a soundness of mind and definately a resolve toward the world around me began to redefined my sense of being.

Sacred places represent the areas I would return to many times over to expereince some presecptive of my own soul. Taking in the experience of who I thought I was, and watching what I became there. The open space showed me where I wanted to go in this life, and it clearly was born as a result of these sacred places where I found refuge.

Modern day America, with all its distractions and exceptions of living create monumental distractions from the core life source within us. My hope is that by painting places such as these, others my appreciate the scaredness of who they are deep within themselves, finding a sense of unique greatness in any moment.
